Don’t think volunteering with scouts is for you? Here are a few myths busted:
- Do I need to be a parent of a scout? – No, whilst many adults come to scouts because they have a child it is not a requirement. All you need to be is enthusatic, bit adventurous and want to try something.
- Do I need to commit to every week? – No, whilst we do run nights for young people everyweek adult roles can be flexible to suit. We have roles that are volunteering directly with young people but also support roles that can be even more flexible.
- Do I need to have outdoor skills? – No, depending on the role the skills required can either be taught, developed or picked up. The programme for our young people is varies from knowledge, practical skills, outdoor skills and any skills you may have can be utilised. We also have experianced leaders who can help you put your skills to the best use and learn new ones. Other support roles have can also utilise your skills in other ways
What roles are available?
- Lead Volunteer – A Scouts Group Lead Volunteer (GLV) is a leader of a Scout group. They are responsible for approving activities, overseeing the induction of new volunteers, and helping to implement change. They can help to set and implement an agenda for a group to take it forward.
- Trustees – As a trustee you are on the board that oversees the actions of the group, helps to implement change and the agenda for the group and offers assistance to the group.
- Section Volunteers – Section volunteers run each of sections (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts). They work as a team to provide a range of activities both at our building and overnight trips.
